Street Still Life
2019
“Street Still Life” was a thematic photography contest structured in collaboration with the Hangar Art Center and the PhotoBrussels Festival.
The theme of this contest, Street Still Life, was directly related to the theme of the fourth edition of the PhotoBrussels Festival, which was “Still Life”.
With this contest, we wanted to see how photographers approached and interpreted the streets inspired by a provocative term. Can we find stillness in the streets? Can we find “Still Life” in the public space? We challenged them to show us.
The selection of the finalists and the winners was carried out in two rounds out by a jury composed of photographers, journalists, and curators including Bert Danckaert, Lise De Ganck and Paul D’Haese.
The result was a selection of 6 pictures printed in large format and exposed in the outdoor area of the Hangar Art Center. The selection made an emphasis on the varied perception of the theme Street Still Life through the eyes of the participants. All finalist pictures were printed and displayed at Hangar Art Center, Brussels from Saturday, November 30, 2019 until Saturday, December 21, 2019.
